ASCENT v0.4 UPDATE - BRIDGES + DISCORD


happy monday, androids and other lifeforms! this week's progress includes:

  • buttons which can be pressed using the grapple gun
  • signal system which can communicate between buttons and other elements
  • bridges which can be extended to cross gaps
  • five puzzles using this new technology
  • levels are now numbered (suggested by Stage-name)
  • some promotional art
  • i found all the bugs so you don't have to

this space will be the hub for all of my creative projects going forward. i will use it for organization, brainstorming, development livestreams, playtesting, getting ideas and feedback, posting sneak peeks of stuff im working on, and potentially looking for people to collaborate with. there will also be a version of the ascent available which has the debug platforms left in, so you can skip levels you've already solved in previous weeks.

if you're interested in ascent  or DKA or you have a project of your own that you'd like feedback on or you're just in a friendly mood, stop by and introduce yourself!

plans for the next three weeks

i think i will continue to alternate between adding new features and focusing on puzzle design with the elements i have. this week will be spent trying to fill out my puzzle matrix and making sure every interaction is being used in an interesting way.  bridges also have a lot of potential that isn't shown in this week's set of levels- the capacity for multiple bridges to be hooked up with separate buttons was implemented over a week ago- so there should be a lot of room to make a lot new levels. i would like to do more than five if i can come up with them, but no promises

i also plan to start coding a new puzzle element behind the scenes, to make sure i can design five levels using it in time for next next week's release- and of course the week after that will be level design again.

finally i will be putting some work into restoring Dungeon Keysmith's Apprentice to active development. i looked at the code over the last few days and did a lot of cleaning up- a minor update will be released tomorrow. no new content yet but it shouldn't be as, ah... frustrating to play anymore.
