ASCENT v1.0.0 IS COMPLETE - GAME DONE GO PLAY IT


sorry im late, gang! this ended up being a much bigger challenge than i expected, and as mentioned previously i am really, REALLY bad at level design. but i found some enthusiastic playtesters and managed to pull through!

this is the final update to ASCENT!

i don't even REMEMBER all of the changes this version has, but here are some of my favorites:

Levels

  •  removed a bunch of lame, sucky, tedious levels and replaced them with cool, intricate, devious levels
  • filled all six sectors up to six levels each, for a total of 100
  • edited a few levels to patch some unintended solutions
  • reordered several levels to smooth out the difficulty curve and break the game up into meaningful stages
  • tweaked visual design of a lot of levels

Graphics:

  • dust cloud animation when objects hit the ground
  • crumbling animation when breaking shale
  • victory now waits for animations to finish instead of freezing them
  • changed signal colors to be more colorblind friendly

Sound:

  • footsteps now match the tile the robot moved onto rather than the tile e moved off of
  • footstep sounds now play when stepping off the cable onto a tile

UI:

  • fixed some formatting issues with the messages between levels
  • made ingame instructions more consistent

Bugs:

  • fixed a bunch of obscure grappling bugs

  • hid 22 secret transmissions

i have a boatload of ideas for a sequel to this game. will i make it? probably. will it be this year? no lmao
